Hi
I have a rancher 350 es with 300 hrs on it. I rode it hard this last weekend and swamped it. recently it has been burning oil badly. I took the motor apart and found only the exhaust valve side to be fouled up with black residue. I am going to rebuild the top end with standard piston and rings and a new gasket kit. im thinking it is the valve gasket, so hopefully the rebuild should solve it. could it be something else? Any suggestions/help on this would be great.

When the engine is apart everything should be measured , if the cylinder is worn out of round a std piston/rings may not stop the smoking ..

Yes it should be honed, checked for clearances and out of round.

Yep checked clearances and everything was good except the piston. it was .004" under service limit. what type of hone should be used?
