I drained the gas to ship the 4wheeler i put gas in it for the first time today and i had some gas come through into the air filter resevoir. I don't think it is normal, but i haven't had a 4 wheeler long either. The air filter was wet with gas. Is this a problem? Do i need to drain that resevoir or not?

if u shipped the atv without draining the carb, then gas probably got into the filter, also, if u ran it wiht the choke on for a good ride then that will do it also. just clean the filter and the gas should be gone a good bit.

I drained the air filter resevoir then tried to start it. When i put the gas on reserve it started but after i cut it off then the gas backdrained through the air filter into the resevoir again. What am i doing wrong? Is the carb back draining or what?

Sounds like your float is stuck. Try running the bike and turn the gas to the off position, then give it about 10 seconds and shut the bike off. See if it drains gas in the filter then.
