Well, this one has me scratching my head.

When I am out riding, if I hit a puddle to fast, the machine dies...very litle sputtering..almost dies instantly. It usually fires right back up..but this should not be happening.

It also happens if I go slowly into deep water....I'll be moving along and then it just dies......I've never had milky oil and the airbox is dry after this happens...so what the ****? And like I mentioned...it fires right back up...I haven't tried to start when I'm still in the water.. but as soon as I get winched out it fires up again.

Any help or similar problems out there?

thanks for any help.

Sounds electrical to me, maybe something getting wet and going to ground... Break out the dielectric grease and start pulling everything electrical apart and putting that crap in it starting with the spark plug boot!!!! Best of luck to ya

Thanks guys. I tried the grease and still no luck.....dealer said to remove the side panels. The guy said that when water hits the exhaust, the steam has no place to go and is right beside the intake and thats whats makes it stall. like i said....air box has dust in it when i check...do you guys think this could actually be the problem?

MY 420 ES WAS DOING THE SAME THING UNTIL I ADDED A SNORKEL BUT I ALSO PUT DIELECTRIC GREASE IN PLUG BOOT AND THE COIL TERMINALS AT THE SAME TIME SO NOT SURE WHICH FIXED THE PROBLEM BUT HAVE HAD IT IN WATER OVER THE SEAT MANY TIMES SINCE AND NO PROBLEMS

Well, it turns out the dealer wasn't kidding. By taking the side panels off I did everything but put the intake under water and at different speeds and it seemed to do the trick. Looks like a snorkel if I want the side panels on!!

Thanks for the replies guys.

I'd like to know what the deal is with this. My brother had an 08 4x4 ES. His done this when we went to Black Mountain. However, My 08 2x4 has never done this. I've been in deeper water etc than he ever was and it has never done this.

So I wonder if is something with the 4x4's? Just seems strange.
