can the oil pump cause it to stall out & die? (i have a 2000 350 rancher)

Is the motor locked up? OIl light on? I may be wrong but I dont think that bike will shut itself down because of low oil pressure. More info would help

it has been sitting for a year or so (it was gave to us)
my hubby cleaned it up, put new brakes & battery & it ran fine for a few days.....now this.

I think your going to have to give a little more information as to symptoms to get any help here

Sounds like a fuel issue. Since it sat for a long time not being used the tank, fuel lines and carb got gummed up. Since you got it running all gunk worked its way into the fuel filter and carb.

I'd have the fuel system and carb cleaned.
