Pulled a smart one. Early last week I changed the oil in the atvs and today when I was straigtening up the garage I found the washer for the rancher on the bench. Too many rides, too many beers, and a short attention span. Has anyone run without the washer?

Is it leaking? If it is not I may wait till next oil change but it would probably be best to put it back in. On my old honda 300 I had a drain plug leaking and did not want to drain the oil. It was light enough that I shut the gas off and quickly tipped it on the side. I was able to pull the plug out and replace the washer without loosing any oil. Newer atvs are heavier and this would be harder to do unless you had help.

i know on the 500s if you dont put it on and torque it so specs it will not leak but the next time you go to do your oil the threads will come out with it do to the plug moving that 16th to 8th ins more. it hits the top of the threads cavity braking it off of the crank case. honda covered it but his 500 was in the shop for 2 weeks. i also know of a 420. he did not put it on and it leaked. he torque it and it stripped out. he took it to the shop and thay just re threaded it. i think it was the same as the 500 with it braking off yes the re threaded worked but that medal is still in your crank case

Its not leaking but I think I will recruit some help and tip it to the side and put the washer back on.
