Default Rancher ES will not shift with lights on..

Hello all,

My wife has a 2006 Honda Rancher ES 4x4. I just noticed tonight that it will not shift gears with the lights on. The N on the display will only blink the whole time the lights are on. I can turn the key off, and turn the lights off, then turn switch back on, and it will shift without any problems. I have always had di-electric grease on the plug for the transmission. It is an electric shift. It is always stored in my garage. I did have it on my trailer for about a week in the weather the last time we came home from riding, but I just now noticed the problem tonight since I was getting it ready to sell. It seems like it maybe an electrical/water issue, but I'm not sure where I need to check. If I need to include any additional info, please let me know.

Thanks for any help or advice.

Doug

First thing I'd do is test the battery and charging system.Having the lights on is putting an extra electrical load on the battery.

OK, thanks. I did check it again this morning before I came to work and with the lights on, N blinks fast twice, then a pause, then twice again, pause, repeat. Is this a code of some kind? If so, where can I find out what the codes mean?

Thanks again for your help.

I swapped the battery, still same problem. I also removed the Change Control Unit cleaned, blew out, and re-greased the plugs. Still having the same problem. Could the Change Control Unit possibly be going bad?

Hi I have same problem. Please read. Did you get help? If so please help me.
r3u2dhkm2yahoo.com thanks dganny

I just noticed tonight that it will not shift gears with the lights on. The N on the display will only blink the whole time the lights are on. I can turn the key off, and turn the lights off, then turn switch back on, and it will shift without any problems.
I have the same problem when I apply the brakes and the brake lights come on.
I replace the battery and clean ALL the batter connections.

Is the battery charged? If so, there is a short off the battery or starter.
