Adjusting Front Brakes

How do you adjust the front brakes on a 2002 Rancher.
the front brakes are very soft, and I believe they could use an adjustment.
My son purchased this ATV used and there's no owners manual.
looking to get one.
any help would be appreciated.
thanks You
Dan

Take the red rubber plugs out of the front drums, you dont have to take the wheels off you can see them between the spokes of the wheels. There are two star like wheels inside, have to spin the wheel to find them and use a flat tip screw driver to turn the stars. There are arrows pointing to the outside of the wheel, this is the direction you want to turn them. just turn them until the wheel drags and back them off a bit and you should be good. Jack up the front end before you start.

Definitely adjust the way kipes said. You may also want to pop the drums off and clean them first. If the rancher was in a lot of mud previously they will work better if cleaned first. Pop the wheels and drums off one side at a time. Clean drums and shoe liners as necessary then give the shoes a light sanding before reassembly. Don't forget to re-grease the drum seals. Adjust as Kipes stated. Hopefully someone can post a manual for you.

Just take the big castle nut off of the hub and it should come right off.
