Please Help: 2006 Foreman 500s swap to 500ES

Good Mornin all,

I'm new to the forum and was hoping someone could help me out. I've tried searching everywhere here and couldn't find anything. I currently have a 2006 Foreman 500s that's starting to smoke and has rod knock, I got a deal from a family member who gave me his 2006 500ES motor (bike was totaled) so free was way better than the cost of repair and parts for my current motor. Only thing is I'm not sure what all I'm going to have to change. If its still on his bike he said I could get it but a lot of it has already been parted out.I know I'm going to have to purchase the ES shifter, but not sure of anything else. Has anyone else done this? Any help would definitely be appreciated and thank you in advance for anyone taking the time to read and reply.

Welcome to the forum.

My .02 is to take his ES motor, remove the ES crap, and keep your machine as a footshift.

Pull his motor.

Remove rear engine cover.

Remove the emergency shifter spindle from his motor, and replace it with your splined shift shaft. Replace rear cover.

You can simply remove the shift motor from the front of the ES machine, and take the reduction gears out from under the motor (so you're not fighting the shift motor when you're foot-shifting) OR if you want to go whole hog you'll have to swap out the shift shaft and front cover from your footshift machine. If it were me I'd just pull the gears and be done with it.

If you want to swap everything to ES you'd be better off taking parts off of yours and putting them on his. The computer, wiring harness, and switches will all have to come from the ES machine.

ES's are inferior to footshifts. More to potentially break, and that stuff always does.

Thanks for the reply Jeepwm69. So converting to an S would be fine, just to make sure I'm getting it right, I would need to:

-Remove the emergency shifter spindle from his motor, and replace it with your splined shift shaft

- swap my current gears into the new motor

Will everything hook up to my motor or would I have to swap certain plugs over to the ES motor for it to function?
