The angel eye modd

Thought I would make an official how to post on them so people dont have to message me or jplayer about them. The steps are pretty easy but time consumeing. Im sure he'll chime in but I believe jplayer is tryin out a diffrent style light that may be a little brighter

Angel eye headlight mod

What you need: 2 60mm led angel eyes heat gun (or you can use an oven) Clear silicone Flathead screwdriver

Step 1: Slowly go around tha lens with the heat gun to melt the glue that holds the lens to the unit.

Step 2: Pry between the lens and unit with a flat head screw driver as the glue melts.(This will take some time)

Step 3: Once the lens is taken off silicone a 60mm led ring around the light bulb hole. ( I ran my wires through the lightbulb hole and cut a small slit in the rubber piece)

Step 4: Remelt the lens back to the unit. There should be enough glue left around the unit to hold the lens on. I put more silicone around the grooves just to be safe. Also after they were glued back together, I went back around the out side with more silicone. (The more silicone you use, the better it will hold)

Would the 60mm lights work on a 450 foreman?

Would the 60mm lights work on a 450 foreman?
I dont think so because it would be a little more difficult to get your glass and metal headlights apart. Ive not really ever tried though. If you could get them apart then they would work.

Yup....
I initially tried a cheap, Chinese made angel eye and after a few days of operation, segments of the angel eye started shorting out. ARRRGGGHHHHHHHH

The new lights are from superbrightleds.com and while I have not fitted them in yet they are definitely brighter and appear to have a higher quality circuit board. One other option that superbrightled's has is a diffuser which is a a circular shaped piece of plastic that the circuit board drops down into and when you turn the Angel Eye on instead of having tons of dots arranged in a circular patter it gives the illusion of a CFL angel eye (solid circle, like on BMW's). The best part is the diffuser is only $2.

Since I was having to redo things I actually am going to try something way way way out of the box for all of the lighting on the 4 wheeler.

For the center (handlebar) light I purchased a demon eye motorcycle projector assembly (about $60) and am going to install that in there and paint the inside of the entire assembly gloss black. If I get it right it should look pretty cool.
The good thing about the demon eye assembly is its not just the demon eye but also comes with the HID bulb / ballast etc so it will increase light output. Here is a pic of a demon eye projector.

The second thing I am doing different is the HID retrofit in the lower lights as well as possibly going to try double angel eyes. I have a 80mm white angel eye and 60mm RED that I want to stack. Unfortunately with the diffusers on the 80mm its a hair to big for the house so I need to create some small slits in the headlight assembly to slide them into and then I would need reseal those slits.. That doesn't make me to happy but ill probably do it anyway!! LOL

PLEASE NOTE THAT AS OF RIGHT NOW I HAVE NOT TESTED THE SUPERBRIGHTLED ANGEL EYES . As soon as they have been working for a few months though I will definitely make sure to post back though!!

you making want to try this on my 420 with the green bulbs more and more, (Im ignorrant when it comes to wiring) Are you able to wire the bulbs in with the stock switch or is there a way of having them on a seperate switch while still having a clean look? Im not big into having 1000s switches for each thing causing clutter but id like to have them where i can independently turn the AE's off and on seperate from headlights

I mounted a swich next to the key entry. Theres a spot perfect for it on the 500s. Ill try to post some newer pictures up tomorrow.

Wanted to share some progress/advice from my double angel eye project.

The following pic shows two angel eyes (one 60mm and one 80mm) silicone'd together. They don't fit inside each other so the I mounted the 60mm towards the back. Both of the angel eyes are secured inside one of the diffusers that are offered through LED Lights, Bulbs & Accessories - SUPER BRIGHT LEDS . The 80mm angel eye is white and was crazy bright so I decided to spray some headlight tint on the diffuser housing to diminish light output and as an added bonus it looks pretty dang cool!!! :)

PROBLEM WITH THE 80mm.. The 80mm actually will not fit into the stock housing so I had to cut slits in the top and bottom of the housing in order to mount it. (it barely sticks through on either side) This is still a work in progress but you can see where I have siliconed up the hole on one side. Once the silicone drys I am going to put some strong plastic epoxy around the silicone in order to further seal/protect the housing.

Since I was doing so much work on the headlight unit I decided to take my time and think of any possible way that I could make them look even cooler. Angel eyes and all of the popular headlight mods have a typical goal of making them look like mean "eyes" so I decided to paint the clear housing in a way that would make the housing look more like eyelids.
-- This is three staggered light coats of Krylon plastic paint and is painted from the inside of the housing so I don't have to worry about scratches and such.

And here it is all together. This isn't sealed up yet but it gives you the idea. When these things are turned it looks wicked. Sorry I didn't have time to power them up and take a pic but will try to get to it tonight.

Advice
- when cutting the slits for 80mm use one of the grinding/cutting wheels from your dremel and take your time. Trim a little and test the fitment, trim a little more and test again. You dont want to end up with a screwed up housing.
- When popping your lens use a combo of very small flat head screwdriver with a very large. The small will get you started and then put the larger one in to actually pry. Take your time on these and go slowly down the side of the housing. Once you get the majority of one side lifted you can generally pry them with you hands to pop the rest but use slow and controlled prying.
- If you paint your lens use blue tape to create your mask from the inside. Slice your design with a sharp straight edge razor blade. Spray the lens with Krylon Plastic Paint. Use a very light coat then let dry for a few minutes and repeat this process 2 - 3 times. You really don't want light showing through because if your coats are not pefect these blemishes will show when you turn your headlights on so that is why I recommend 3 - 4 coats.

Im not seeing a picture either. And it says theres no pictures in that album.

GOSH... Very odd.... must be something with the moderation.. I just went and edited the post so the picts are pulling from my server instead of the forum. Let me know if they are showing now..

#20 ·
Dido. I can't see anything.

#22 ·
There up now. Im ready to see them things hooked up!

#23 ·
Man I can't wait to see those light lite up.

Ask and you shall receive...

SORRY for the crappy pictures. I snapped them the few minutes I was home for lunch. These LED'S truly are on a completely different level of brightness than the previous angel eyes that crapped out on me and because of that I had a hard/impossible time getting a decent picture of the housing plus the angel eyes.

Between all of these you get a idea though. As I said before... Pretty dang wicked looking!!:tongue

Well dang..... Looks like I might be takeing mine back apart sometime soon again.... They look good man!

#26 ·
Do it man!!! I'm really digging the way its turning out.
If you do, pop in some audi style led strips too!! I bet that would look even more awesome!! I would have done it if I would have thought about it when ordering the angel eyes.. :-(

Only thing that I wish I had done differently but am to scared to try now is that I wish I would have brought the top "brow | black paint" down a little and/or made it oval shaped where the oval peaked at the center of the angel eyes.

I am too scared to try it now because if I tape it back up and the tape pulls some of the current paint off that could put me in a bad/messy spot trying to correct it.

OH AND FOR FUTURE REFERENCE!!! Our clear lenses don't like paint stripper!! LOL I messed up another lens trying to paint it with headlight tint paint so I put some "natural stripper" on it(it has an orange peel very light odor to it and is made of "natural substances"). It took the first layer off fine and worked great sitting on the lens for only 5 minutes or so, so I put another coat of the stripper on to take the rest off, let is sit for an hour...... Yeah.. that didn't work out so well!!! :rant

Man, that looks ALSOME!!

Funny.. Seeing it come together and talking about it today on the forum got me schemin' even more!!

On the 2012's the farthest tip of the headlight assembly actually has an indented area in the unit where it looks like they planned on putting another bulb but didn't.

That area on mine is now concealed behind the black paint but you can still see the edge of this area through the lens. So I ordered some white LED's to go in here with hopes that the light will bleed through and create another hard edge giving the light more of an "eye" look...

Here is a pic showing what I am thinking.

I also ordered two mini strips of audi style LED's. I have no clue how I will or if I even will use them but I figured while 'ive got the lenses popped I may as well get them so I can play with them and see if I can make it work.

BTW.. here are two companies I would recommend for LED light stuff.
LEDs - underbody kits, cathodes, flexible LED strips, dome lights
- Very fast and helpful service department. Good selection of LED's and switches.

LED Lights, Bulbs & Accessories - SUPER BRIGHT LEDS
- fast service, HUGE selection of angel eyes. Also have the diffusers for them.

I believe pretty much all tha plastic lens headlights are gonna be about the same size and shape

The relay I've got has a hot wire running to it, I'm only using 2 of the 4 terminals so it wouldn't be no thing to run some wires up to it. I kinda hate to say it though, but I'm starting to rethink wiring them in. I think I'd like to have constant operation, and I think I've got enough flashing going on up front anyway

That looks good man!!!

I actually agree with you though, especially if you take the time to make them look like evil eyes I bet the flashing would probably diminish that effect.

Got the LED to put in the upper left corner (behind the black) and also the strip of Audi style lights.

I layed them in the housing for two seconds for a little mock up and wow, they are going to look a ton better than they already did..

Yeah yeah... I know.... Pictures.... I'm gonna try to finish up this one housing tonight and will definitely have some up this weekend!!

#41 ·
Alrighty... Here they are with the audi strips and extra LED behind the black part. The pics look great but really dont do the lights justice!!

#42 ·
Dang that looks good you put any more lights in there you wont ever have to turn on the headlights just use the led's to light up your path I bet they put out enough light by themselves.

They do put out a good bit of light but not enough to drive by!!
I am doing the HID swap too while I have them out and I loaded up the bulbs yesterday and turned them on.. If you cycle the LED's while the HID's are on they definitely change the color of the light a little and also increase the light output, again just a little.. So that tells you just how bright these things are.

Well....... The above design failed on me and I'm giving up on the dual angel eye.

After this side was completed I decided to go ahead and install the single headlight before starting on the next one.
Put it in and man did it look awesome!!!
Decided to go ahead and turn on the HID's just to see how everything would look and then to let it sit and run for a minute. After about 5 minutes, haze started... I tried to convince myself that it was just an optical illusion but it continued to get worste until it literally looked like someone had set off a smoke bomb inside the housing!!!!

ARRRGHHH.. I really dont know how it happened but all I can think is that some level of moisture lives in the silicone that I used to cover the huge holes where the larger(80mm) angel eye was sitting and then when I cut the HIDS on that the heat building up inside the housing drew the moisture out?!?!?!

I should have and honestly had thought about using epoxy to lock everything in but didn't have any when I started... I wish now that I had taken 5 minutes to run up to the store.

So...I'm giving up on the dual angel eye project because I honestly do not have the time to do it and just want to get my four wheeler back together. I did go ahead and put the red angel eyes in to the non modified assemby... Just doing that is honestly becoming easy to do!! LOL

I had to order a new headlight assembly for that one side though so I am waiting on that to come in.

I mentioned this in a previous post but I had ordered a single bixeon demon eye projector lamp to put in the Center light assembly.

Since the projector doesn't need the reflective parts of the inside I decided to paint the inside of the housing all black. I got that mounted over the weekend (it was actually pretty easy)... Cut pretty large hole out of the back of the assembly, mount projector assembly.. EPOXY it in place. Once it was locked in with little dabs of epoxy I then lathered epoxy around edges of the entire hole essentially locking the projector assembly in place and sealing up the housing again.

Ill take a picts of it soon but I am really really happy with the way it came out.. It almost looks transformerish!! LOL
