I just picked up a new 2009 Rubicon left over at the dealer (gave it to me at $2k below MSRP). While I was installing a Superwinch, the directions say to tap into the ignition with the small red wire coming off the handlebar mounted switch. I found a Red, Red with Black Stripe (R/B), a Pink, and a Black wires. When I tap into the R or R/B with the key in the OFF position, I can still use the winch. the B and P are both negative charges (-).
1) Is this Normal? If not, How do i fix it? 2) If that is normal, Is there a way kill the winch when I put the key in the OFF position so my kids dont drain the battery or destroy the winch when I turn the Rubicon off? Thanx ahead of time! |

you put it on the wrong side you want it on the other wire that only gets power when the key is turned the wire you have it on now always has power. get a test light to help figure out what wire is hot when the key is turned on and isn't hot when the key is in the off position

Using a voltage meter:
Key OFF B-R = 7v B-R/B = 7v P-R = 12v P-R/B = 12v P-R = 0v Key ON B-R = 0v B-R/B = 0v P-R = 0v P-R/B = 0v P-R = 0v My buddy that installs ingnition interlocks calls it a negative ignition.

You have 2 powers coming up to the ignition switch which powers the other 2 wires when it's turned on. Just hook it to the pink wire and you will be good to go.

okay so i have a brand new winch and a brand new battery all put in, and my winch is not pulling in, everything else is working fine but the winch not pulling in... it goes out but not in... i did hook up my new winch to my old winch relay which was a warn 2500 and the new one i have is a superwinch 2500 would that cause the winch from not pulling in???? and the little red wire on the AC where you can charge phones on the ATV the wire ripped but i fixed that and stripped down the red rubber on the wires and put a connector over the wire with wire hanging out a bit right through the hole where its suposed to be connected and the connector is securing that for a nice tight fit really good, it worked for a bit but then gave up. the winch still only goes out but does not go in... would anyone know??? when i turn my key nothing turns on after that time when i pressed in on the winch and then everything turned off.

jonah, you either have a bad mini rocker switch or contactor. You have to wires going to the contactor from the mini rocker switch. One will have power when your pushing the rocker switch one direction (lets say in) and the other will have power when pushing it the other (out). If they are both getting power at the contactor when they are suppose to then you have a bad contactor.
