Hey guys, poor traction with stockers. Looking at Bighorns and their knockoff brands plus Bear Claw HTR's. Should I go with 14" wheels and stay close to my stock tire size? I ride mainly trails with some mud, no real mud bogging here. Appreciate all input. Thx
staying to OEM size will get you the most power, lots of folks go an inch up, for just trails to gain a little more looks and clearance
all the tires above would be OK, I would also suggest looking at Pit bulls and like tires too, great all round tires
JUST< stick to at least 6 ply tires, for the best flat protection
Stick with 12in wheels. They will give you more tire sidewall. I also say stay close to stock size to keep gearing about the same. I just got tusk trilobites HD (bighorn knock off) and have not found 1 thing I don't like about them. They are also half the price of bighorns. I went with 26x9-12 front and 26x10-12 rear, and also got 12" sti hd3 alloy wheels.
Only one advantage I can see going to a 14" rim, more clearance between the rim and brake calipers. Rocks can get stuck in that space easily on the 12" rim. If you have steel rims, they'll survive but aluminum will wear into the rim and possible destroy it. The 14" rim will take a much bigger rock to have this happen but you will end up with a rougher ride.
Thx for your input fellas! I will go with a 12" wheel and trying to decide on a tire. I like the sound of the BH knockoffs. Are the good in WV red clay? Thx again
I went threw a pretty good mudhole and made it threw without much spin, started in 2wd then went to 4wd but a Suzuki Kingquad 700 with 26" Itp mudlites got stuck with a diff lock. To me the trilobites (bighorn knock off) are a good all around tire and especially for the price. I paid $272 for the 26"s but that was with 10% off
Memorial Day weekend sale. Rocky Mountain had 10% off 3 brands and the tires were one of them!! I was still debating over them or the bighorns and then I saw that was ordered them up! Lol
