Sounds like you ain't going fast enough

I normally ride the CRF to get the speed up in summer. No mud to play in anyways most years because it's under 20' of "recreational pool"

You've just given me a, probably bad, idea. I've got a little portable fish finder. If I rig it up to the front of the 4 wheeler it might work for exploring unknown water............

The scary part is if I hit the lake bottom down here with that thing hanging off a cane pole duck taped to the front rack of my bike folks will think it's a good idea

They'll probably also give me crap about flying off a cliff into the middle of a creek but that's a whole 'nuther story.

Kidding aside those things are handy for checking out waters of unknown depth. You just cast it across with a fishing pole and drag it back across. And they're not expensive either. IIRC I paid less than $100 for mine.

Yea ive seen'm around. most of the small bodies of water around me I checked the depths with my 12' boat before I sold the fish finder...... I have an HDS 5 on my bass boat.... How much funnier would it be to sit with an $800 color GPS unit on your quad in the middle of a pond while people in boats go by and wonder WTF is he doing.
Yea from what ive seen you just pitch the transducer in the water and you're good to go..... but I dont know how low that thing will read to, the humminbird I had on my 12' boat I think only went as low as 4' if im not mistaken.
