Kidding aside those things are handy for checking out waters of unknown depth. You just cast it across with a fishing pole and drag it back across. And they're not expensive either. IIRC I paid less than $100 for mine.

Yea ive seen'm around. most of the small bodies of water around me I checked the depths with my 12' boat before I sold the fish finder...... I have an HDS 5 on my bass boat.... How much funnier would it be to sit with an $800 color GPS unit on your quad in the middle of a pond while people in boats go by and wonder WTF is he doing.
Yea from what ive seen you just pitch the transducer in the water and you're good to go..... but I dont know how low that thing will read to, the humminbird I had on my 12' boat I think only went as low as 4' if im not mistaken. |
