Default Winches, Winches, Everywhere!!!

So my underpowered (2000lb) rusty lined, abused, cheap azz superwinch snapped the cable and wont reel itself out....Anyway I'm going to upgrade and I an in a quandry And Ill say for the neglect and submerges of the non waterproof Superwinch she served me well RIP.

I really like the Viper winches the best, but are they as good (better) then the Warns??

Advantages disadvantages of Steel vs Synthetic line (other then rust of course)

And are all the Vipers waterproof, or just the Elite????? Cause if the classic is waterproof for what I do I'd be perfect (not a big mud hole rider so I don;t get stuck too often).

Thankzz

I have the Viper Max 3500. I love it. It's been under water many times and it's still working like new. Some people have good luck and bad luck with both warn and viper. I think it's all in what you do with it. (dont try to pull a house down) One thing you ABSOLUTELY HAVE to get is the synthetic cable. Best 50-60 bucks spent. I love that thing.

Cool. How is the freewheel on it??/ I've noticed on the Superwinch it could be a pain in the azz to unlock sometimes. 3500lbs though?? isn't that a lil extreme???

The freewheel always worked flawlessly for me even when caked with dry mud. Na the 3500 is good for me cause I ride with RZR's, Brutes etc. sometimes I need it. Plus when I was buying I told myself better to have and not need, than need and not have

I went with a superwinch 3000lb. It has a similar freespool knob to the other winches, not like the cheesy one on the SW 2000lb. The main reason I went with it was it was the cheapest winch that came with an actual mechanical brake, and it drew far less amperage than promark or Venom. I didn't research the Viper brand specifically though. Nice thing about the superwinch was a longer warranty than the eBay brands too. Like I said, not sure where Viper fits in the spectrum. If you aren't going to plow you probably don't need a mechanical brake like I did either.

some things I learned the hard way about Winchs.....being Cool or expansive does not make for a better winch.

Their is no such thing as too big of a winch "IF" you need it or a friend needs it more than you!

And even some of the 3000LB winch's can have plastic castings (housing).....cast metal is at the forefront of my next winch when I need one!

a winch plate that bolts (directly to the frame in the Rear-minimum) preferable front & rear ......learned that lesson the hard way

And buying off eBay is cheaper for all brands, the down side-short Warranty's

For your battery's sake check the amperage draw for the different brands. In my research some brands were drawing DOUBLE the current for the same speed. Maybe not a concern for everyone, but with this ES shifting and the up/down of my plow it matters a lot for me.
