Used a shop towel
![]() Now, Im putting the nut back onto the clutch (kinda on the inside?, its a big nut) Im trying to tighten it, hows a lowbuck way to hold it while I tighten it (impact)? im going to smash it in like it was when I took it apart (diff part of nut) Thanks! Got a bunch of paper gasket scrapped today, hopefully get the piston/jug on tomorow sometime, ive got like 5 shop projects going at 1 time lol

I've used shop towels before, too, but a piece of aluminum wedged between the gears works better. Sometimes, the gears will just chew the shop towel up and won't hold.
You might be able to hold the clutch center tight enough with your hands (gloved), if you're going to use an impact to tighten it. If not, you can make a clutch holding tool. Cut a round plate about the size of the clutch center. Drill 5 holes in the round plate that will line up with the clutch spring bolt posts. Drill a big hole in the center of the plate big enough to get the clutch nut socket through. Weld a rod to the plate to use for a handle to hold it with. Now, just bolt the round plate to the clutch center using the posts that the clutch spring bolts go in. Stick the socket through the center hole and tighten the nut while you hold the handle. |
