Default TRX90X doesn't seem to be running right!

I have a 2009 Honda Trx90x I bought new and have rode very little. It hasn't seem to run right to me since I got it. I put new gas in it and ended up putting a warmer plug in it from the stock 7 to a 6. I still didn't think it was running right as it took a very long time to get warmed up and sounded like it had a hicup in it while it was idling. I took it to a local atv shop and they said it ran fine to them. Well I got home and put a new stock plug back in it I picked up there and went from a 6 back to a 7 and the bike seems to be worse than before as it takes longer to warm up and just doesn't want to get going but once warmed up I turn the choke on about 1/3 the way and it revs good and quick like I think it should. I can't shoot the throttle to it all at once or it will die without the choke partially on when warm. Both the first stock plug it had and the 6 I just pulled out of it where black on the tip of them. Does it sound normal for a trx90 to run worse with a colder stock plug in it than the warmer optional plug? I still think the bike needs the carb cleaned and was why i took it to the shop. If you think the bike needs the carb cleaned do u think if I buy a service manual for it I could do it myself even though I ain't to good at this stuff? All restricters are removed but the pink wire. THANKS!!!

I would say that the Carb would be a good place to start. I would also say that it is not that hard to do but there are a lot of little holes that need to be blown out with compressed air. I really like to use SEAFOAM in all the gas that I put into my quads, and to clean the carb when needed. When I clean my carbs I put them into a ziplock bag and soak then overnight. Then I just blow them off. Always worked for me.

Seems like local ATV shops always say the same thing when they don't want to help you. Anyways, the TRX90 tends to be an old-fashioned cold-blooded unit. The other guys are right on with the carb. I doubt the spark plug is causing the trouble. A carb cleaning is a good idea and so is a bit of experimentation with the resitrictor on the intake. There is a rubber boot on the intake of the air box and depending on elevation and average humidity, it is a bit too restrictive as is. I ended up needing to basically double the size of the hole to get it to run right with stock jetting. The other thing is that these old style engines simply do not take well to sitting for long periods. Clean the carb first, check to see how it runs with a little playing with the restrictor, and then run it till it is good and warm and can cough some of the crap through.
