Default New ATV for my son...

After all the talk on the 2 or 4 stroke thread, I ended up looking at a 2001 Polaris Sportsman 90 today and he fits fine on it. I ended up buying it from a motorsports dealer and they gave it a tune up, new battery, replaced the wheels bearings, and checked over all the other safety items. They even included a short warranty with it. It fires right up everytime, even using the kick-start.

Now I just need to get him a helmet so he can ride it.

Nooo a polaris!

Nah, he oughta enjoy it, how old is he? Better start saving for a recon, he can grow into that and ride it when hes older too! Yeah have him in a helmet!

The funny thing about it is, Poalris doesn't even make these. The dealer said that is a good thing as they are constantly fixing Polaris atv's. He said the Polaris little 50cc and 90cc atv's are great though.

Good choice. I also have one in my garage. It belongs to my friends son that rides with me all the time. It is a very reliable little machine. It can be turned down to a walking pace and then opened up as he gets better at riding. Your son will get 5+ years of riding out of that.

Do not skimp on a helmet. I also require my kids to wear a chest protector. I picked them up using EBAY for about $20 bucks each.

I hope I get 5 years out of it as then my now 2 year old will be riding it also so that woudl make for a good investment. I have it dialed down to as slow as it will go for now. Once he gets used to learning how to ride it, then we can start to give him some more speed.

Cool ride. The best rides are with my boy. He is the trail boss. Have fun.

They are good little machines, but their one short coming is the carb, all of the ones we have coming in our shop need the carbs cleaned out on a regular basis. (thanks to our wonderful gas) after that they run great. Just an FYI for ya.

I am thinking of getting something similar for my son, question though, how do you 'dial it down'? Is this some type of safety since it is for children? that would be great to know, i waned to just get him a 50cc to start, but then when he gets more experience I would like to be able to let him go a little faster, thanks
