Default Do I want a 2-stroke or 4-stroke for a kid's 50cc?

I am looking at a few Polaris 50cc ATV's for my sone and one, a 2006 Predator 50 is a 2 -stroke, while for a little more, I can get a newer Outlaw 50 that is a 4-stroke.

What are the pros and cons of one over the other? Dependability, etc...

Thanks.

i've always heard it this way. 4 stroke-more torque and 2 stroke-higher rpm acceleration.

Who doesn't love the smell of a 2 stroke?

I hate the smell of the 2 stroke. My kids had/have a kfx80. I hated following that around the trail. As they got better at riding i picked up one Grizzly 125. Then I was in the middle with the KFX80 following. Now my 2 older boys have Grizzly 125's and the KFX is in storage until next summer when my current 3 year old will be 4 and ready to ride.

The 2 stroke is very easy to maintain, and it runs like a ROLEX. Never missed a beat and my 2 older boys both had their share of time on it.

As long as you get a good name brand either one will be a good choice. Just keep in mind you will be the one breathing it in all the time. Smells good for about 10 seconds.

Thanks. My biggest concern is the dependabilty of it. The last thing I want is to tell my son we are going to go ridigna nd have it not start up or run.

Out of the reviews that I have read on the Polaris 50cc's, some state that the 2-stroke is much stronger than the 4-stroke.

I started my kids out on the kfx 80 when they were 4 and 5. They were able to ride the 80 until we just recently got the 2nd 125. They still ask to ride the 80 sometimes.

Comparing cc to cc. the 2 stroke will perform better. For example a 50cc 2 stroke will beat a 50cc 4 stroke.

My point. Why not look at the 80's and 90's. They are not that much bigger. You can adjust the speed the same way as the 50's and you son will be able to ride it for a long time. If you get the 50 he would get a year tops and be looking for more.

With a 4stroke u wont have the issues or maintence like a 2stroke. If ur mechanically inclined then get a 2stroke. If not, or dont want to be, get a 4stroke. Imo
