Default Thinking about trading atv's,I NEED ADVICE/OPINIONS

Hey guys,

I have a 2008 honda rancher 420 4x4 (lift kit,26" itp mudlites,itp ss rims,etc)

I've had a couple of trade offers, and I'm not sure if I should do the trade. I'm hoping someone is familiar with the two atv's in question as far as a trade goes.

The first trade offer is for a 2007 kawasaki brute force 750 4x4. My rims and tires won't fit on it,and the owner just has stock tires and rims on it. It has a snorkel on it,making me think that it has been abused in the mud, and the atv is mainly used by his 10 year old son. It has 800+ miles on it. I'm not sure how they hold up. I have to assume the worst with the snorkel, and a ten year old driving it,possibly over-reving the heck out of the motor.I am skeptical about kawasaki, after having a severe internal engine problem on my commercial grade zero turn mower, and having to fight with them for a year to replace it before the warranty expired. It just makes me think that kawasaki doesn't build quality products, maybe I just had bad luck though

The second trade offer is for a 2004 yamaha kodiak 450 4x4. It has approx 340 hours on it. It has some ugly aftermarket rims on it,and some 26" itp mudlites, and a winch. I am familiar with the 90's model kodiaks, but I know nothing about these newer ones with automatic transmissions. The brute force is also an automatic. I've had bad luck with automatic transmissions in cars and trucks, but I don't know how they compare to atv transmissions.

If anyone has any advice on what I should do as far as a trade goes, please let me know. I know that the rancher I have is a 420,and the yamaha is a 450,but displacement doesn't necessarily mean more power.

Thanks for the help guys.

Just depends on what you want. What are your primary needs for an ATV? I think the 420 is a fine machine but the brute force and kodiak are completely different machines.

Like PB says, it's really in your ATV needs. I like your current setup that I see no need to trade. I'd def stay away from the 10 y/o's bike though.

Yamaha's automatics use the Ultramatic transmission. They are belt driven but they have one of, if not the best, belt setups on the market. I've owned 3 Grizzlys with the Ultramatic transmission and they've worked flawlessly, but if you ride in deep water up to or over the fenders, you will have to snorkel the belt system to keep water out. If you just do normal trail riding, they're fine without snorkels.

The Bruteforce also uses a belt system, as do most of the big bores, except Honda.
