Default Just got a free 4 Wheeler!

A family friend's son outgrew his 90cc Chinese ATV a year ago, and they've since replaced with another one. When talking with them about it, they said it needed starter. After how much they wanted for it, the answer was "I'll give you $20 to get it out of my garage. In the end we agreed I'd help her out with some computer stuff.

The battery was dead, so I pulled one out of the Recon, hit the start button. The starter spun, but the engine did not turn over. I pulled off the magneto cover, pulled the magneto pulley to get to the starter clutch. Discovered sand and mud/dirt was preventing the starter clutch from grabbing the magneto pulley (which is on the crankshaft. I cleaned it up, put it back together along with emptying the old gas from the tank and carb bowl, and yes it started right up!

Total investment $0.00. Now it just needs some TLC and soap/water.

This is the perfect size for my 7 yr old. I'll probably put some new tires, maybe a new choke cable.

Once I get it cleaned up, I'll post some pics. It actually looks like a mini Recon.

I've had a blast rebuilding this thing! Replacement parts for this thing are DIRT CHEAP!

Let's see:
New front brake cables $5 each
New front brake shoes $4
New carb $34
New air filter $8
New 110cc cylinder, piston, rings and gaskets $57
(motor was 90cc, now it's a 110cc)
New rear brake pads $5
New Chain $14
New clutch $34 (not just the discs, but the entire assy)
New front gear $11 (needed to compensate for larger tires)
It really didn't need any of this, but when I saw the prices, I couldn't help myself .

The new tires were the most expensive item.

Surprisingly it's pretty well made, just the components aren't the best quality. I guess the Chinese have been cloning parts for decades.

I've decided that when my youngest outgrows it, I'll just give it away to someone else.

Neat that you can do all the work and rebuild something for your son to play on til he outgrows it.

I call those machines tinker toys, your always doing something to them. I have a little 90 for my daughter as well. If it has the remote start/kill feature it will kill the battery, at least the ones I've been around do.
