Default Riding Gear

O'Neal Element offroad boots fit comfortably and were $100, which was in my price range. The problem is I have a foot shift with a mesh metal floor. The opening for shifting is nearly impossible and awkward getting the toe in, so I have to take them back. I want a good pair of boots to protect my ankles and soles. Those of you with footshift, what are you wearing for protection?

I agree, I usually ride with regular work boots or running shoes.

A pair of boots are never far in this house because I ride a sportbike and believe in proper attire. It may seem like overkill to you guys as more experienced riders, but I'm trying to build good habits early. Does anybody wear something that offers a bit more protection for ankles/soles besides maybe a full out MX/offroad type?

All I wear on the wheeler is my regular work boots, a good pair of leather lace up boots. I use to wear the MX boots back when I rode dirt bikes but you used your feet quite a few times while riding then for certain situations. On the 4 wheeler your feet stay pretty much on the pegs so a good comfortable pair of boots is usually all that is needed.

You could have a local welding shop enlarge the hole in the floor board to make it easier to shift with riding boots on.

Cool - I'll take the offroaders back and then just get some higher ankle work boots that can handle some mud/water. Unless I can lift/adjust/modify the shifter, I don't see a way to enlarge the opening for a comfortable shift.

UPDATE: Hunting boots were 1/2 off at Academy. I bought a nice pair with a high ankle, thick sole, waterproof, and overall decent quality. $19.99 There were Brazos steel toes I liked for $29, but I'm cheap and the hunting ones were cuter.

Here I am dressed in my riding gear. My boots really aren't cute though.
