Default Buddy won a free Ranger, wants a Honda ATV instead

Was at a car dealership and entered a drawing for a free Polaris Ranger. And he won it. Thing is, he doesn't want the Ranger, he wants a 4wheeler. The Ranger is the 31 HP small utility Ranger.

So which one should he get?

Basfnb wants him to be the guinea pig for the new DCT Rubicon. The Ranger he won was the little one that retails for $8699, so chances are he'd have to throw in some cash to get a new Rubi.

He's expecting a baby in 3 days, so I suggested finding an 09 or 11 Foreman FM, or an 05-14 Rubicon where he could hopefully keep a little cash and get a nice wheeler out of the deal.

06 black Rubicon with tires and winch, 1500 miles, looks new $3,750

New 2014 Rubicon $6,900

Used 08 camo Rubicon $4,600, not as clean as the 06, has black ITP steel wheels, stock tires

Used 06 Rubicon, green, looks clean, but no info on miles. $3999

The top one is private party, the other three are dealerships.

Obviously he could trade in the Ranger at a dealership (easier) and if he got the better deal buying private party he'd have to sell the Ranger himself.

Any input?

Must be nice......

I'd hit the dealer up first to see what they will offer
there are MANY dealers that are both honda and other brand dealers
MIGHT be able to get one to swap or even give a few bucks back(low odds on that LOL)
BUT before the things gets transfered inbto his name is the best option, this way dealer can just swap without a transfer, and the ranger can remain NEW for them to sell as NEW
Oonce its in his name it will be considered a USED machine, and that will lower value a bunch!

as for buying a used ATV, and selling this one out right, that can be a lot of work, and what IF"S
with a kid on the way, time I gather will be short on him, he I think will be less stressful deal to just trade it in at a dealer, IF they give him some fair options!
and a NEW atv is a lot less likely to have issue's, them you find out after you buy used, have burned a lot of folks, and well, make a good deal go south FAST!
so saving on used is always a gamble??

Looks like he's going to get a mower instead. Says his current one won't make the hills they have now (recently moved) and will use any boot to pay bills.

As a junk guy, I'd buy a good used mower for a few hundred bucks, and then buy a used wheeler, and then still have some boot, but that's just me.

Jeep, I agree LOL, but Wow, if he swapping that for Just a mower, it must be one **** of. A mower:
they do sell mowers you tow behind an atvATV too?. All depends on how much grass there is.
owning a BIG lawn/acres to mownow, can be very time consuming, and them BIG ridding mower get the work done fast, but a zero turn even faster, but dam there not cheap.
Me I killed most of my grass here with round up, 15 yrs ago, and don't miss it at all LOL
put gravel down , now more mowing grass for me in the yard LOL
neighbors were not so happy, but **** with them I said, Haha!

I think he's going to get a $2-3K John Deere rider (not zeroturn, but higher end small lawn tractor) and then his wife will get the rest. Just a guess.

All I have to say is.....how often do you get that kinda money dropped in your lap? I am the first to say responsibilities before play, but I'd be buying a beater mower and an older used 500FM before I'd drop 3K on a mower. He lives in the city, so while his yard may be hilly, it can't be that big.

I agree, but its crazy what some folks will pay to have a pretty yard!
folks here pay 1-2 k a yr having chemicals sprayed on there lawns to be GREENER!, Crazy in my book, but guess we all have things we spend money on differently!

and around here you can buy a cheap riding mower for a few hundred bucks too, but odds are they might not last long!
**** I gave away 3 of them in great shape over the yrs, one's I got from friends that passed away, and just didn't need, so gave they away!, being a nice guy??
ON atv's
I sadly prefer to buy new, as I tend to ride by myself 99% of the time, don't trail ride often, but when nd where I do, if it broke down, its a long walk out, and sadly, even worse, the type of people about here, if they came across a broke down atv, they would shoot it or light it on fire, or just steal it!
SO, I like new, and then KNOW what was or wasn't done to it, and feel, lower's my odds of a trail break down!, as I try to keep GOOD pm's on my stuff!
a lawn mower, in the yard breaking down, is NO big deal in my book LOL
IF your buddy is buying a JD mower in the 3 k and under range NEW< odds are its NOT a real JD item, a jap knock off with JD paint and stuckers, and an over priced price tag!
the real one's start at over 6K from JD.
better off buying a cheap knock off, being the same thing for less!
he should just tell the wife he paid more, and buy himself something with the savings LOL

om mani hear ya with the people that would steal it or light it on fire if they found ur bike broke down on the trail, we cant even set up camp and go for a ride around here without worrying if someone coming across our camp gear and stealing it or wrecking it, heck someone broke into our camp trailer during moose season last year, we took the bikes out to the gas station to get a few things and some gas, came back trailer door was wide open and they broke it so it doesn't latch closed anymore, it just swings open, my father always told me when i was young , the nicest people you'll ever meet are back in the woods, sadly that doesn't seem to be the case anymore.

yes theer are jerks every where these days, sadly
far topo many people wanat what others have, and don;t want to do the work it takes to have it
they all want short cuts today it seems, and there a serious lack of care about each other too, way too much, the , ITS all about ME, thought process I think!

I also think too many kids are GIVEN things these days, and never get to understand what it takes to have things
we live is a world today that everything seems to be paid for on credit
few actually save up to buy
and lack of doing so, I think they lost the understanding of what working for something means to both them, and others
sad
but how things are, and getting worse in my book!
30 yrs ago, few folks locked there dooors on there house
now , I think its like 50% have home alarm systems, from homes to cars, to even ATV have alarms now??
Crazy!
and sad!

The media will sure make you think that we are worse off today but despite common belief, just about every type of crime in America is down. Unfortunately, there have always been and will always be scum bags who think they are entitled to other people's possessions.

Well I disagree to a point, I think crimes are based on percentages, if. % say of folks are LetsLet's say BAD; and its about the same now as 40 years ago.
it may seem like more bad now, just because there are like 10 or 20 times more people in the world today, than 40 yrs ago.
yes there will always be scum bags, sadlt, and with today's instant media. reporting it all, it maybe just seems like more bad now than then
butthen but like I said if its only a percentage of folks doing it, with totoday's so much higher population , it is higher now than yrs back, based on just more people?
