I like my superwinch 3000. Most recently their prices have dropped a great deal also due to them trying to push their more expensive synthetic cable winches.

I have the Warn XT25. I paid $300 for winch, plate, and rubber stopper thingy. That was with a $50 rebate. Which I haven't gotten back now that I think about it.

Works great and I love the synthetic rope. Not the cheapest, but the best IMO.

I feel the the definition of a good winch is really subjective to your riding style/conditions, storage method, and the amount you plan on using it.

I guess what i'm getting at is if you constantly submerge the winch, store your bike outside, and get stuck once a day, shell out the extra $$ for a higher end, synthetic cable, fully sealed, all metal geared winch. On the other hand, if you bike rarely goes deep, stays in a shed or garage when not in use, and you rarely get stuck, maybe pull the occasional tree stump, then a cheaper winch with steel cable will work just fine.

I think the Warn RT25, Superwinch, and Viper are all good middle of the road winches. All three brands also build high end synthetic cable winches. A warn RT25 can be had for about $250-270 through amazon.com.

WOW was that new!? If so it seems like you stole that thing. Heck at the time I want to say my superwinch was more just for the winch itself, then I had another 70 into the plate.

EDIT: Ok that was with a rebate..... but still thats a good deal for..... IMO..... the best co. out there

Right, thats kinda what im trying to say. If you plan on beating the **** out of it, shell out the money for a Warn. If you plan on putting it on a garage queen, there is really no need for a strong, durable, reliable winch. I know guys who have winches on bikes that rarely see anything but the garage and hardpack, just so they can say they have a winch. Cheap winches that are not sealed wont work when you push the button if you beat on them.
