What kind of oil and how much oil do I need? And filter?

use the honda g4 oil .if not honda oil make sure its good for a wet clutch ull need to get a filter from honda and it takes about 2.5 quarts in order to check the oil start let warm up for 5 mins then find a level surface and when u screw it out dont screw it back in to check it there shoudl be more ppl to chim in thats what it is for my 2011 foreman 500

i used the motul 10 40 its a synthetic blend and it meets the standers same standerds as hp4 if its the 2012 iit takes 3.2 us quarts from what manuel says changed my oil for the first time yesterday put three quarts in and added till it looked good started bike for like 3 min shut off let it sit for another three checked it and it was good. If ypu wondering how to restart the oil change light turn bike off hold the selector button in and turn key holding button in and it will go of after a few seconds.

Yup. Different than 2011. As far as the filter, my local auto zone carries a "Fram CH6015". Its the cross reference for the honda filter. I go thru a lot of oil changes because of the way I ride and its much easier getting oil and filter from auto zone than through honda.

I just recently changed my oil. Went to the Honda dealer in town and got the filter and a Jug of the Gn4 Honda oil. Cost me about $30 bucks but its worth it.

i just changed mine in my 02 rubicon and it took 5 quarts of 10w-40.. I used castrol because I couldnt get my hands on the honda oil. but yours is probally different it being a newer model
