Default Help getting my Rubi started!

Hey guys, Ive got a 2001 Honda Rubi 500 that has been a great bike for me, no issues... Unfortuantly I just moved and during the process it sat out for a couple months without being started. It got rained on some as well. I replaced the battery, and tried to start it. It turns over just fine, just wont catch, or even try too.. I took out the spark plug and cleaned it up, and tried grounding it,, it is sparking.. I tried taking off the air filter as it was pretty nasty.. Stilll nothing.. Im curious if it is getting any gas too it. It sounds as if I had my kill switch turned to the kill side. Is there a fuel filter to check, or possibly a hose that could be clogged? Or possibly something else anyone could think for me to check? Im not the most mechanical person, but can figure out alot if you can just tell me what to try. Thanks for any help....

it sounds like the carb needs to be cleaned up. its a prety simple job to do with basic hand tools . and if you deside to do the work yourself use a service manual which will give you a breakdown (if you need one just pm me and i can send it to you )

If your bike will be sitting for more than a couple of weeks without being ran you either need to add stabilizer to the fuel or drain it, especially if you have a carb. Gas "sours" so to speak in about 3-4 weeks if untreated. If treated it can stay good up to two years. Trust me on this.

I agree the gas nowadays dont have a very long shelf life. Carb needs to be cleaned.

I'd bet it's the carb. A easy way to verify this is simply remove the intake filter and give it a light spry of starting fluid ( only to be done on 4stroke engines) as u turn it over and see if she burps. It may even start and shut back off. If it does than u know for sure it's a dirty carb. Any how it's an easy repair hope this helps.

YouTube - Broadcast Yourself. heres a link to a carb rebuild on a rancher I know u have a rubi it it's very similar if your not rebuilding urs that's fine all ur gonna need to do is go through the steps and just clean the parts aposed to replacing them. Do not remove any Oring unless u have new ones on had. Once u remove the Oring for the bowl it will stretch and will be hard to reinstall and may even leak if u get'er in.
Once u get the screws for the bowl off u may have to tap the bowl with the back of a screw driver to get it loose they tend to stick( do not pry it off u will damage the rim and couse it to leak)
Good luck
