Default Rear Drum Castle Nut

I'm in the middle of rebuilding my rear drum brake and i CAN NOT get the castle nut that holes the hub on off. It is necessary to take it off to get the drum off right? I've been using a cressent wrench with a cheater bar and it wont budge, i know i could try and impact wrench, but i don't have one with me at the time, any suggestions?

Hmm, mine comes right off. The only thing I can think of is soak it down with pb blaster..... if that doesnt work heat it up with a torch. That should help get it off with no problem.
I cant remember off hand what size that is but I know I use a socket, that would probably help too along with the cheater bar.

Watch how much heat you use theres a rubber seal behind that nut.

I had to do rear brakes on my eiger a few weeks back. Same setup as a foreman. I had to use a 1/2" drive 18in breaker bar with a 36" piece of pipe as a cheater and every ounce of energy in my 6 foot 5 inch 270lb body to break that **** thing loose. Also, lots of penetrating oil.

the rear castle nut has some major torque on it, best bet always - impact. I would not recommend heating it unless you absolutely have to tho just incase you get it too hot and take the tensile strength out of the nut or deform the cover making the seal or new seal not seal properly. (my 2c)
