Default New owner, first question

Just picked up an 08 foreman 500 yesterday. The thing only had 527 miles on it and the previous owner had bought it brand new. Just found out the there was no break in period on this atv....in the entire time this machine has been rolling it has only had ONE oil change. How much at risk am I of having issues? Obviously I will he changing out the oil asap but is there anything i should look for? It runs great but now i am affraid to ride it since it has been kind of slacked on the oil maintenance...

Thats ok on the oil change as long as there wasn't any water in it. If there's water in it you will have problems.

That sucks, but you'll probably be OK. The guy should have told you that up front. I'd change the oil and filter right away, then change it again in a few days, then follow the regular schedule. Use a good JASO MA oil such as Rotella 15w40. When you change it, measure how much you drain out. If it was mostly full and the oil looks OK, I'd say you'll be just fine. Honda motors are pretty tough even when not maintained properly.

Good luck with it!

I missed the part about having "only one oil change". I thought you meant he hadn't changed it at all. Rich is right, you're still within spec. I'd go ahead and change it anyway. Honda says something like 600 miles or 6 months or so many hours.

Enjoy your new ride!

Welcome Aboard!

For oil changes most guys will recomend to use the honda "brand" oil, for the foremans its not that big of deal as long as the oil you put in it is has the right specs for your machine.
