Default How to do a oil change

I got to thinking..... I haven't seen a thread for the people who have never changed their oil.

Well, here you go.
Hopefully this helps someone....

One other thing that is important, and you don't want to find out the hard way, the sealing washer that goes on the drain plug should be replaced regularly. Every oil change in fact, as it is crushes when you tighten the plug, and helps to keep the plug tight wihtout over torquing. There is a thread or two on here about the results of over-torquiung the drain plug in these machines with the half-thread bung. If it breaks, you get to spilt the case...

Personally, I dislike the use of a torque wrench on the oil plug also. I prefer a small T-handle and gentle pressure. Same with the filter cover. I use only gentle pressure. If it leaks, it is too loose . If you go too tight, well, it's aluminum...

I don't have anything against torque wrenches as such. But the low-torque ones are easy to miss the "click" on, and they have handles that can apply way too much torque for these applications. If you use then, just be very careful and precise.

Nice thread SS. Sometimes the manual write-up are a little less than clear. Pictures are great.

Great "How To" SS, only a mild mistake or typeo.

the '05-'11 Foremans 500's use 2.6 qts of oil...not like it's going to hurt anything, ......just something I noticed.

Owners Manual 2.5, .....says nothing about a filter

Service Manual 2.6, .....says with filter change

As I said...Honda Type-o, which is cool by me I learned something New.

but like everything else Common Sense would dictate, run the Machine a short time and recheck it & look for oil leaks, I also like to recheck after a short run down the street/Trail and look for leaks again. (personal preference)..............all in all a Great (how to) needs to be a sticky!
