new guy question D1 or D2 - Honda Foreman Forums : Rubicon, Rincon, Rancher and Recon Forum

Hi guys this is my first honda and it seems to to be awesome bike but i am a little confused on d1 and d2. I just bought new 07 rubi dealer said to use d2 for every day riding and d1 for towing. Owners manual says d2 is for traction control ice, snow etc.d1 max profromance. suggestions?

welcome to the best atv info sight around. as for ur rubi. when i owned one i always used d1. d2 lets ur tranny slip a bit. its on purpose. gives u less torque so when ur on slippery surfaces u dont lose traction as easy.

to the forum... D1 is a lower gear than D2. D1 has more torque and is used for slower speeds. Ha! beat ya, Rich...

like i said, this forum is the best. lil'dick is good on knowledge but his answers r always "short" and usually never satisfie

I run mine in D2 all the time. The only time its ever in d1 is maybe if I have a lil extra weight on the machine when goin up a hill then it comes right out..... out of about 2000 miles on my machine maybe a mile of them are in d1.

I honestly think thats why Honda stopped putting D1 and D2 on the rubicons..... too many confused people including myself. They should have just had one automatic drive mode and esp. If I need to do work or I need the extra grunt that "D1" gives I switch it to low range. They should have done that from the begining. When I got my rubi I didnt get an owners manual with it cause somebody I guess took it..... talk about confused! It was my first 4wd and I didnt know how to drive it lol.
