Default Reverse cable question

While riding yesterday, my reverse cable got an excessive amount of slack in it. Anyway, today I tried to adjust the cable. I adjusted as for as I could and still have about an inch of slack in it, and will still not shift into reverse.

I had to take a pair of pliers and pull reverse cable by hand just to get it into reverse so I could take it out of truck.

So i'm guessing the cable needs replacing? Anything else I need to look at, or try?

Just sounds like a new cable is in order.

Check and make sure it didn't fall out of the holder down on the motor that holds it in place. It just slips in the holder and can be pulled out if a branch or something hits it just right. It will be just below the rope starter.

Ok, toodeep was right. It has come loose from where it goes in motor.

Do I just "shove" it back in there, and is there any clip or such on there that I need to be aware of.

Just shove it in its holder, the tension on the cable is suppose to hold it in place. If it gets a good "touch" from something though it will get forced out. Put it in place and adjust the cable to work properly.
