You only have to change it if its bent but I would just try to straighten it out in a vise. You will need one for your Honda 500es.

well not to sound like a smart azz...as I really am not! I really enjoy helping people, But you do need some mechanical knowledge or your not going to be able to change it on your own, as the Tie rod can be a pain to get off if you do not have the correct tools, THEN you got to align it after changing it, which is a pain tiring to get it aligned correctly for a novice or long term rider

but go to your local Honda Dealer and tell them the make and model of your ATV and they will fix you up with the correct part or its #3 in the photo below you never posted what year & model so I pulled up mine 09 500TRX FE............if it were me I would let the dealership fix it for you!

The photo can be found here with all the other parts that Fit My Foreman, you will have to look your up in their list
Honda Powersports' 2009 Honda ATV TRX500FE A FOURTRAX FOREMAN ES Parts List

hope it helps ......some

I would also mark the treads and/or count how many turns it takes to get the ends off the rod so you can get the new rod set up the same.. good luck.

yea I think so too,

the ball joints can be a real pain in the rear to get off.....long story short I dont want to be responsible for somebody maybe getting hurt, because I forgot a step, or he messes up his quad by not having correct tools, God knows I had a heck of a time getting the ball joints off my first time learning.......I been wrenching on stuff all my life and can spin a wrench with the Best of them...........

but I'm not shy to say I'm still a Newbie to Quads, and Ive had to buy Metric tools to work on this thing and some of them were creative to say the least!.....but everything is a Learning process, if you have the core Skill!s

Yeah but theres no need to take off the balljoints for a simple tie rod, just the two tie rod ends. 19mm wrench is all you need to replace the tie rod sleeve.

define tierod ends,

are they not the ball joints ......in the photo its item #1, and I use a Crowsfoot Wrench as not to strip the nuts.
