Default 2007 Foreman 4x4 ES-Slipping clutch?

I have a 2007 Foreman 4x4 ES.When I shift you can hear the clutch wizzzing for a brief moment and then the clutch will engage and slam into gear-HARD! This will do this in 1st, 2nd, and sometimes 3rd, but not between 3-4 and 4-5. I am assuming this is a clutch problem and it needs adjusted. I am a novice at wrenching but I have adjusted the clutch in my Kawasaki LaKota 300.Would this procedure be the same and where could I find the clutch adjustment on my 2007 Honda Foreman 500 4x4 ES?~Thanks in advance~Titan1

The clutch free play adjustment is on the front of the engine above the shift motor, but I'm not sure that's your problem. To adjust the clutch free play, loosen the locknut and slowly turn the screw counterclockwise until you feel resistance. Now, turn the screw clockwise 1/4 turn and hold the screw, to prevent it from moving, while you tighten the locknut.

So the shift motor is taking the transmission out of gear and is not shifting into the next gear right away causing the brief whizz sound before engaging the clutch? Any ideas what might cause this problem?

I don't really know what the problem is. I just stated how to adjust he clutch free play and where it was located, like you asked.

Does anyone know why the shift motor would hesitate briefly before shifting into the next gear?~Titan1

The clutch adjustment will play a part in that. Try that and see if it helps.

Default 2007 slipping clutch

I have been busy as of late, but this morning I did adjust the clutch as described in Helmut's and Toodeep's suggestions. I now have a smooth hardly noticable shift !!! Thank you both very much for your help! ~ Titan1
