2007 Foreman 500 hard starting and backfires after carb cleaning and valve adjustment

Hi all, I'm new to this site, just bought a 2007 Forman 500 standard shift with 6900 km and 800 hrs.
It had a pretty good tick noise when running so adjusted the valves to 0.006 and while I had it apart I cleaned the carb and installed a new spark plug
Now it seems hard to start have to hold the throttle open a little to get it to start and when you rev it out going down the trail and let off it backfires pretty good
So any help would be appreciated, are my valves too tight or my carb not set right. I never adjusted or took out the pilot screw as I didn't have the proper tool to do it so maybe that is dirty

Hope someone here can give me some help as to what to check

Welcome to the forum.

My first guess would be a carb that wasn't clean. I boil mine in lemon juice and have had good results doing that.
