Hi, I have a foreman 450s and it's hard to start, when it does eventually starts it has no high end power and it takes a few seconds to get up to high rpm(this is when in neutral) it is hard to make it move itself when in gear. I bought a new carb and set it to where the book told me and changed the air filter, spark plug, fuel, and muffler and there is still no change. I did a compression test and I got 50psi. I also noticed that when it does run and I give throttle the exhaust pipe at the front glows red. Does anybody have any suggestions on this problem I have. Thanks.

Is it a Kei-Hin carb or a chinese copy off of ebay? Does the choke help it rev up better? Check the valve lash. The pipe glowing is usually a indication of a lean condition, unless you have been running it pretty hard.

It is a Kei-Hin carb, bought it from Honda. The pipe was glowing even with the old carb. What is good compression when cranking for these engines? (yes, I did check valve lash and it is within specs)

That is why I suggested checking the valves. The book says 78 -121 psi compression test, how long did you turn it over when testing? If you remove the rocker cover are both valves moving approximately the same amount?

its obviously running way lean. i would guess this to be the root cause of the poor compression... assuming all was fine at some point in the engines recent past.
