I've used old springs from the brake shoes to pull the lever back on mine for a sticky cable. Just no point in fixing it in the summer months when it gets dunked every weekend. I just used a little wire to make the hook points but basically the same as what your using except yours is pushing instead of pulling.

u could also tie a rock to the rear rack an push it off when needed,or fred flintstone it! just pickin lol!

29.5 wide laws on all 4 corners  on 12 inch ss wheels,full snorks front an rear,homemade winch bumper with 2500 winch,2 in lift with hl springs,14% gear reduction,rear led brake light,disc brakes,tool tubes,a arm skids,2.5 inch rear spacers,cut floorboards with frame riser mod all this on an 04 foreman. kids 01 foreman on 27 mud machine tri claws wide on all 4 corners,snorked.

I'll research on posting larger pics. Basically it's a heavy spring surrounding cable between brake cam/lever and fron cable holder. Its a liitle stiff but I know I'm not dragging brake shoes off.
