Wingman,
I don't have any knowledge of it being apart before, but can't say for sure it wasn't. It looked like an OEM gasket to me but that doesn't mean it hasn't been apart. With the help of Mr. Rich, I identified the mystery washer and I'm pretty sure it fell there when I took the cover off. I had some time today and took the entire centrifugal clutch apart. Believe it or not everything looks good. The opposite side of the weights had the same abrasion marks, almost like they were "cleaned up" after being lined. The drum looks remarkably good as well. If you don't mind me asking, what did you pay for a good used centrifugal clutch? As for the change clutch disks, Mr. Rich helped me there too and shipped me what I needed today. (Thanks again Rich!) |

Ok here's the latest update. I got my caliper back and took to measuring. Everything checks out to be within the service limits. The two biggest findings were the broken ring gear on the clutch basket and dirty/siezed clutch disks. I actually had to separate the disks/plates with a screwdriver. I think this is due to being run with dirty oil (overdue for a change) that was down at/under the add mark at higher speeds/RPM's. I would hazzard a guess that the clutch disks froze and weren't releasing right and that lead to the rest. The kid driving it when it started making noise was running it through the gears quicky on a "course" around a small field. So, with any luck the clutch basket was the weak link. Hopefully with the new parts and a thorough maintenance session, it'll be good to go!
Thanks for all the help so far! |

Soooo... I finally received a tracking number for my parts order after 10 days! Looks like they should arrive via snail-back some time Monday! So, I guess I'll have to stick to destroying other things until then!

Darn Rich.... the parts you sent me have been all cleaned up and ready to go for over a week...LOL
I ordered a bunch of small stuff like the gasket, o-rings, clutch adjuster, and a shift guide plate from an online parts house. Figured there's no reason to slack and I might as well cover all the small stuff while I'm in this deep. I'm not good at waiting. I called them to follow up yesterday and the parts were magically shipped within the hour! |
