Default WIll not run please help me

Okay I have posted a couple of other threads but I thought I would start a new one. I have aquired a 2003 Honda Foreman 450 FM and I got it cheap beacause it wouldnt run and they did not Know why. I am pulling my hair out trying to figure it out. I removed and cleaned the card, I checked the valves and mad a minor adjsutment, I checked the timing (could only check it when cranking) and it checked out fine, compression seem good, getting spark, new plug, getting fuel, gas in tank, petcock on, and all lines are clean and clear. The one thing that I can tell you is there is a lot of fuel bieng blown back into the airbox and I know this is not correct. The machine will fire breafly when I use starter fluid. I have worked on it for a couple of days now and need some insight if anyone has it.

I went by the book on adjusting the valves and they were pretty close. I did notice that the adjusting screw is not perfectly parallel with the top of the valve. Is that normal.

when checking the timing what mark do you see thru the access plug?also if in doubt pull the plug an stick a screwdriver into the plug hole an see if the piston is at the top of the cylinder too then look at site plug an you should see the letter t. anyone correct me if im wrong but i think im right.

Id do a compression check because it sounds to me that you have a intake valve not closing enough and Im thinkin thats why you are getting fuel blown into airbox?
One of the guys that work on these things for a living will chime in soon and may have better ideas.

That will be great. I was thinking about the valves and when I was adjusting them I never looked to see if they were functioning properly, maybee one is stuck or something. I am going to go back out and check it, if I dont it will bug me.

okay I triple checked the valves and the timing mark. The timing mark is on the T and I pulled the plud and I could see the top of the piston. I would watch the valves as I pulled it over and they didnt seem to be opening and closing one after the other. It would be one open then the other would look like it might open but not the the one would open again and the other would open just fine. I am no expert but wouldnt they be opening alternatley all the way? Why would the one open in one stroke and not the other? Also after a random pull start one valve would have a 1/4" between the screw asnd the valve and the other would be tight. Are tey supposed to be at the same gap all the time or not?

does the valve get stuck ? it may have a broken valve seat (the valve seat pulls out of the head ) you may have to pull the head to check it

I watched it and one valve (after I pulled it over) would be open and then slowly close back.
