Default Tickover trouble.

Hello people, when my foreman is running on tickover every now and then the engine will just stop and as it stops it makes a sort of clicking/knocking sound? im not quite sure where the clicking/knocking is coming from, maybe the clutch area. It also makes the noise sometimes when i turn the engine off? Any idea's?

Does it make the ticking sound when the engine is warm?

What do you mean by tickover? Idling? Cold Start?

I think I've heard a similar sound on most Honda's when they are cold idling and die or when you shut them off. The sound I hear has something to do with the starter re-initializing, it almost sounds like the starter is actuated breifly or something, happens on various Honda's. Maybe something to do with the Bendix/starter relay solenoid or whatever. Is that what you are talking about?

The bold/underlined part is confusing but I'm going to guess the sound your hearing is the one way clutch (bearing) in the centrifugal clutch. It is probably just starting to go bad giving you the winding down sound and then a loud clunk. The engine braking will be affected by this also once in a while also, it will just want to free wheel when going downhill.

Sorry guys Tickover meaning Idling. Toodeep, dont have the winding down noise but definatly have the clunk. Have not noticed a problem with the engine bracking at all? Is replacing the clutch bearing a big job? Will it hurt to leave it for a while to see if it gets worse?
