Hi folks,
Need some advise about a starting problem on my Dads 450ES, when pressing the electric start button you can here a click from under the seat but it doesn't turn over. Battery is fine and starts on the pull cord no problem. I'm assuming its the starter motor but whats your thoughts? I'm not sure which year it is as he purchased it second hand is there a way to check? Cheers Will Northern Ireland |

to the forum...Sounds like the starter is a good place to start. No pun. The year can be found under the seat, starter side. On the frame, left front. i would test the starter before you go through the hassle of replacing it first.

First, make sure the problem isn't the solenoid by jumping the two posts on the solenoid with an old screwdriver. If the starter turns, the solenoid is bad.
If the starter doesn't turn, get some jumper cables and hook one end to a known good battery and on the other end, hook the ground to the starter casing or the engine and touch the hot to the post on the starter. If the starter doesn't turn, the starter is bad. Make sure that the battery is good and fully charged or these tests won't be accurate. |

Thanks for the info lads, I’ve tried Helmut’s advice about jumping the solenoid and still nothing, I checked the VIN and it’s a 2000 model so I’ll order a new starter. Is it just a simple switch round or can you give any advice on the easiest way to do the change over.

Should be a simple swap. Be sure to disconnect the battery BEFORE you begin work on the starter. Be sure your wire connections are tight. Installation instructions should come with the new starter. If you run into snags, just jump on the forum and someone will help.
