First, unhook the positive battery cable. Now, remove the plastic engine cover on the right side of the engine. Next, unbolt and remove the starter cable and unbolt the two bolts that holds the starter on and remove the starter. Installation is just opposite of removal.

I searched ebay and found these two different suppliers

NEW STARTER HONDA TRX400 TRX450 FOREMAN ATV TRX 400 450: eBay Motors (item 130427516500 end time Sep-09-10 09:25:42 PDT)

Honda TRX450S/ES Foreman 98-01 Starter Motor: eBay Motors (item 120616275664 end time Oct-01-10 10:35:52 PDT)

both of these are supposed to fit 2000 model but they don't look similar, the bolting points look different.

Looks like the starter in the first link is the one you need. The second link might just have the wrong picture, but I would order the one in the first link, just in case. Plus it has a cheaper price, anyway.

Just wanted to say thanks for the help/info, got the new starter fitted no problems and she fired up first press of the starter button.
