Default Battery won't charge power drain???

97 foreman 400 4x4 and the new battery is dead. I just picked her up from my dad and she wouldn't stay running after jump start. It has an old winch that hasn't worked riight in years that I disconnected tonight. I'm going to have the battery checked/charged today but I would like to know where to go from there. If this doesn't fix the problem how do I know if the stator is bad or if it is another component. Thanks for the help guys and I will post updates.

I disconnected the old winch and all seems well. The battery was bad so autozone exchanged it. I will see how well it goes but it running great. Time to work on suspensionon and cosmetic issues to get ready for the trails.
