Default '01 Foreman Universal Joint

Hey Gang,

Is it a common occurence that the Universal joint on the drive shaft that goes from the Transfer Case to the Rear End lets go? I'm pretty sure that's what's worn out on mine... While driving at 30-40kmh, I hear a clapping sound, and once in a while, a grind while coasting/braking. Anyone had this problem before?

the only occasions where i've heard of rear shaft/u-joint issues is when the bike is lifted, in conjunction with lift springs. jack up the rear end and have a look. let us know what you find, or if you can further isolate the source of the noise.

Ok I'll try that. I just hope it's not a noise even in the transmission. Then that could get quite costly....

Yup! Asked my uncle, who had quads and bikes all his life. He's almost certain it would be the yoke. He thinks if it was the transmission, the only way to screw it up would've been by drowning the bike, and driving it that way (with water in the oils). I'll tackle the job to find the problem tomorrow, and keep y'all posted! Thanks!

Well......

I jacked it up this afternoon, started it, and ran it in gear. It ain't the Universal joint like I thought (and hoped) it was. Sounds like it's in the front end. There's a costly fix. Makes quite a bit of banging when the wheels turn. Probably a bearing?? Hopefully it ain't the CV shafts....

when the wheels turn? do you mean with the handlebars turned? because if it's making the racket with the handlebars turned, then it probably is the cv joints.

When the wheels turn, as in moving the bike. I ran it on the lift, and could hear racket in the front end. We then thought it could be the bearings in the front end. Handlebars were set straight while doing the tests.
