Default CV Boot quick fix??

I'm running short on time and need to replace my CV boots. They're both split in two. I can't get the front shafts out. Yanked, pulled, everything. Nothing works! So, would it be possible to just fill them with grease and wrap them in electrical tape to get me through hunting season? I won't be going in mud or water very much, if any so I just want something easy and quick that will keep dirt from getting in them. Any other ideas?

Just pull the boot loose and remove the clip leaving the cv cup in the final drive. Replace the boot and put it back together.

Well I know how to replace the boot...my only issue is getting the axle out of the front diff so I can slide the new inboard CV boot on. I can get the axle out far enough to see the inboard joint, but it won't come all the way out.

There is a little clip that holds the inners into the cup, remove that clip and the axle will be in your hands.

I've done a number of CV shaft boots in my time. I konw its not easy to come by, but a slide hammer is the best tool. My Rincon always give me a hard time.

I understand what that clip is doing, but often wondered. Wouldnt the shaft operate fine once installed if that clip wasnt there ? Sure make changing boots alot eaiser. As you mention to the other guy there, thats gonna be a bugger job to put that clip back in .

Ahhhhhh!! I never knew about the clips in there...until you said that and I looked at an exploded parts diagram of it. Makes sense now. All that wasted time pulling and yanking down the drain. Thanks!
