Default Final drive/axel

Hey all. Tore in to my bike and found my final drive and axel splines are striped. I can get a new axel/rear diff for 700. But was wondering if these two can be welded. I was not sure if the gear was aluminium and the axel steel, whitch would be a prob to weld. Any suggestions. Oh ya its a 01 4wd foreman 400

I wouldn't weld. The Foreman I bought had the rear welded. It Lasted long enough for me to buy it and ride a little while. I went back with an armor tech ring gear and oem axle. Cost me around $245. You can get both armor tech brand for $251 on ebay.

I had the same exact problem on my '96 400. Got an armor tech gear as jmoe mentioned for $119 on eBay and ordered an OEM axle from cyclepartswarehouse.com for $104. I would check your bearings too while you've got it apart. The left rear bearing in the axle housing on mine was just about completely gone and I had a lot of rotational play on my axle so it stripped everything, axle and splines in the gear.

I found the same problem on the same bike. It belonged to a buddy, I didnt notice until I tried to climb a hill and found the rear wheels not driving. Exactlly what thetater11 said, the rear left bearing was totally gone and caused this damage. The axle is steel. I have the gears left from a job that I have no use for. But Im in Ontario
