Default Stock Tires?

I've got a '96 400 and it has about a 1.5" - 2" lift with 27x9-11 Super Swampers on it. Both front CV boots are ripped and I'm guessing this is because the lift is too high so it creates a bad angle for the shafts? I would like to get rid of the lift and put some all terain tires on it that are close to the same size as the stock tires so I don't have to replace the CV boots all the time. Any suggestions on a good all around all terrain tire? And what size should I get? I use the bike for 2 weeks out of the year hunting in Arkansas, so the worst it sees is some mud holes and occasional snow. Thanks!

Or...could I take the lift off and live with the 27" tires?? Will I have enough clearance?? Don't want to buy new tires if I don't have too.

Trade the 27 for 25's. I wonder if they did the gearing change though on it. I have a 2" lift and have no issues with my CV's. I suspect if you change your CV boots they will last you a long time. They are rubber so they do wear out, and your bike is 16 years old.
