Default Muffler question

A friend of mine has a 2000 400 foreman and the muffler is shot. He wants to stay stock for the noise. A new muffler is pretty spendy and he cant find a used one. I found a used muffler off of a 97 400. The local dealer said thatthey have different part numbers, they look sikilair when I looked at schematics.

Will the muffler from a 97 work on a 2000?

Sure looks like it will. Replacing just the muffler or the entire exhaust? There are good, low noise after market mufflers availible...

I believe the '97 pipe would work on the 2000, too.

I appreciate the responses. Does anyone have any input on cutting the muffler in half and repairing the broken "baffle".

Did it on a 95 once, cut the end off and the baffle was rusted out and not reuseable.

The right welding rod, stainless can be arc welded. Need to make sure you have enough metal left to weld is the issue.
