Default cooling fan

I have a 2001 foreman 400 and to get the cooling fan to come on i have to turn the ignition off and back on. I have to kill it and crank it back up to get the fan to come on. Can anyone explain why it does this?

thanks

to the forum...When your Foreman warms up, will the fan turn on? I'm a little confused. Does the fan only work when you turn the machine off then on again?

The fan does not come on when the engine warms up. When i am riding and the engine is hot the fan is supposed to be on but to get it to come on i have to turn the machine off and back on and then the fan will kick in, and after it cools the engine down and it goes off i have to go through the same procedure to make it come on again

just wire it to a switch its easy take the wire from the fan and run a hot to the switch and the fan wire to the other prong on the switch its alot nicer to decide when it comes on anyways especially if you ever go through water or mud

That is a easy way to fix that issue. Alot of folks are doing the fan switch thing. Sounds like a bad fan control unit. Kinda pricey. Forementioned toggle switch would be cheaper... Good luck.

the easiest way is to run a hot from the battery to a toggle switch then take the wire from the fan and run it to the other prong of the toggle switch. easy as pie
