Default What would cause a back fire?

Was riding at Turkey Bay and my Foreman started back firing after getting back on the throttle at the bottom of the steep hills. I cleaned the carb, added a fuel filter, put in new plug, adjusted throttle cable to make sure butterfly are shutting. Set the pilot screw at 2 1/2 turns.
At the end of the day I was having to use the choke to get half throttle and turn off choke to idle.
What would cause this back fire?

Thanks
Jason

It's still doing it after you cleaned the carb? Check the air filter also.

It's still doing it, I rode down the road and it done it when I let off and got back on it for a corner. It runs good, just has a attention getter that goes along with it. I may need to clean the carb again. Look for something I didn't get clean.

What would I look for on the air filter? It looks like its in place with the band tight. Lid is on tight.

Any chance you have an exhaust leak somewhere?

Exhaust leak was what I was thinking also. When my 400 was new it did that bad and Honda replaced the seal on the header pipe.

I'll try the header bolts, I may have over tighten the bolts. Motor has around 15 hours on a rebuild.
