Default Leaking Differental

Hey guys working on the 400 and it had been sitting at a backwards tilt for about a week while i was waiting on parts and noticed that it was leaking oil, not like cut artery spewing out just leaking very little but still enough to leave that lovely stain on my shop floor. After finishing the fix and putting her back on all fours it still leaks some but barley any. Is there a gasket missing or something or is this just a bad omen? Its right where the front drive shaft goes into the front diff. Thanks

you may be able to get away with just changing out the pinion seal, but something caused it to start leaking. my be just a worn seal or maybe a worn pinion bearing. Reguardless of the cause the diff will need to be removed to repair it. IMO if you have to remove the diff just go ahead and spend the 50-60 bucks for an aftermarket bearing/seal kit from All Balls and replace everything. This way you know what you have. A special internal socket will be needed to remove the pinion nut, but if you have access to a welder one can be made fairly cheap and easy. Just fine a plumbers nut that fits the nut and weld it to an old 1/2 drive socket that is atleast 1" in diameter.
