Default TRX400FW Last Legs - 2WD Conversion

I have a 1997 TRX400FW that has been been a great bike for so long, but as they say, all good things must come to an end.

The entire front drive has been removed and the 4wd knuckles have way too much play for comfort and it is not worth the expense to replace the front drive. I would like to replace the 4wd knuckles with a true 2wd knuckle. I was considering a Knuckle from a 1999 TRX400EX. Does anyone know if this Knuckle will work without requiring any modification?

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I want to squeeze as much life out of it as I can. The engine and transmission are still strong.

not sure if they will work are not, another bike to look at would be a 2wd rancher. The biggest problem I see with using either knuckle is to check and make sure the ball joints are the same. if the ball joints are the same then it would be no problems using either one other than having disc brakes with the ex and drum with the rancher.

you can compare the ball joints here between the different honda models.

the cheapest way is to gut your old axles and use the outer cv cup.

you are correct, it is the cheapest way. But only if the knuckles can be repaired. All balls bearing kits run around $30 each and balljoints run around $12 each

You must be able to find used parts or something somewhere. If the front diff is ok its not to bad to get new half shafts or even take the to a shop that rebuilds cv shafts.
